Fab Lab Berlin & Weissensee School of Art get TC2s

Fab Lab Berlin & Weissensee School of Art get TC2s
by

Berlin recently got two new TC2s, the first at the Berlin Weissensee School of Art and the other at Fab Lab Berlin, and Vibeke Vestby from Digital Weaving Norway was there to get things going. She conducted training sessions at both places and says that she is really excited about seeing what comes out of the two looms – the people she met are young, highly-skilled and they have very interesting research projects to work with!

The first training session was at the Department of Textile and Surface Design at the Berlin Weissensee School of Art. Among the participants was Ebba Fransén Waldhör, who has an ongoing Research Project called Smart3 “Adaptex”, which is about intelligent-adaptive textiles.

The others at the workshop were Anne Hederer (Weaving Studio Manager),  Essi-Johanna Glomb, Christian Frank Müller (Jacquard teacher), and a few students. The School has a research cluster called Smart 3, which investigates the potential of smart materials within a design context. More details about the staff involved in the Experimental Material Research at Weissensee at the at the end of this article.

The second training session was at FabLab Berlin where Karina Wirth was in charge – as the Textile Prototyping Lab Manager. But since the FabLab is a collaboration project with the Weissensee School of Art, so many of the same people were at both places. The TC2 at the School was threaded during the training, and the FabLab loom was threaded in the few days between the training sessions.

Our company’s technician Egil Andre Kristiansen had arrived in Berlin some days ahead of the training sessions, and had installed both the looms –  including hoses, tubes and electric wiring – making it so much easier to get started on the loom once Vibeke arrived!

Here are a few snapshots from the TC2 training at Berlin:
