About…

The Tapestry Research Center at the China Academy of Art was established in April 1986. And in 2003, based on the developments at the Research Center, the Fiber Art department was established. For more than 32 years, due to its research and educational achievements, the Fiber Art department has been a leader in the field of contemporary tapestry and fiber art in China. During all these years, the department has taken a very distinctive and pioneering academic direction of Chinese contemporary visual arts. In September 2013, the Fiber Art department, together with China Academy of Art and Zhejiang Art Museum, established and launched the 1st Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art. The Triennial works to interconnect both, Chinese and International contemporary fiber art and it elevated the setting for an advanced academic platform, attracted the attention to many foreign contemporary artists and scholars. The fiber art department will persistently explore and develop the contemporary characteristics and the oriental spirit of art research and creativity. At the same time, the CFARC will be devoted to the artistic experimentation and incorporation of fiber art into social life and public spaces.
